The Look Builder

The Black Tux would like to rethink how customers put together different looks for their parties. Our design team conducted multiple customer interviews and surveys about their renting experience with The Black Tux. We also interviewed potential customers to uncover current pain points and behaviors around wedding planning and outfit shopping processes.

The Challenge

  • Customers are not familiar with online suit/tuxedo rental services.
  • Customers are looking for assurance and style recommendations when it comes to their special day.
  • Customers are looking for a visual tool to help them put together an outfit.

Our Goal

Through expert interviews and experience mapping, we were able to identify the following sprint goal:
' To create a flexible, independent look-building workspace that allows creators to easily style and visualize their event '

How might we inspire our customers to create looks for their event with confidence?

 Sprint Questions

  • Will customers understand the purpose of the look builder?
  • Will the look builder work for completed outfits?
  • Will customers understand the new shopping flow?

Outcomes

Our design sprint resulted in a design that was helpful for our customers to visualize the outfits for everyone in the party ie. Groom, Groomsmen, and Father of the bride. On the last day of the design sprint, we tested the design prototype with 5 participants. The test showed that people understood the goal of the look builder. Most of them were able to select products and put together looks for their event. However, the concept of creating looks for groomsmen was not clear to some test participants. They were not sure if they needed to check out for all the looks they had created if they were not planning to pay for everyone in the party.

The outcome of the design sprint was a customer-validated prototype and feedback/findings that our team used to drive the product roadmap and product strategy. Our design worked closely with the product, creative and engineering team to break up the look builder to smaller features that could be rolled out iteratively.
